Dr. Deepti Ganapathy speaks on climate issues at the 2022 East-West Center International Media Conference

Dr. Deepti Ganapathy, Chairperson, Centre for Management Communication at IIM Bangalore, was the plenary speaker at the 2022 East-West Center (EWC) International Media Conference, held at Hawai’i Convention Center, Honolulu, from June 27 (Monday) to June 30 (Thursday), 2022. Dr. Ganapathy’s talk, revolving around climate issues, was scheduled on June 29, 2022.

The four-day conference, the theme for which was ‘Connecting in a Zero Trust World’, saw a range of issues being discussed. The opening keynote speaker was 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa.

Dr. Ganapathy’s talk was scheduled on the day where the theme of all the sessions focused on – Increasing trust and global connections in science: climate change and public health. She also participated in the Plenary Panel: Reframing the Conversation on Climate, along with co-panelists including Dr. Matthew Shapiro, Professor of Political Science, Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, Illinois, USA) and Kristy Drutman, Environmental Media Host, Activist, and Digital Media Strategist.

The East-West Center International Media Conference, held every two years, offers a unique professional networking opportunity for journalists and other media professionals from the US, Asia and Pacific to discuss key issues in the region, and common challenges and trends in media.

The South Asian edition of the book, ‘Media and Climate Change: Making Sense of Press Narratives’, authored by Dr. Deepti Ganapathy, was launched at the IIMB campus on June 16 (Thursday), 2022, in the presence of Dr. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIMB (faculty – Strategy area), Dr. Chetan Subramanian, Dean, Faculty (faculty – Economics & Social Sciences area), as well as the student, research and faculty community and invited guests.
