Office of Inclusion & Diversity at IIMB hosts lecture on Brain Health
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at IIM Bangalore hosted a virtual talk by Dr. Malla Bhaskara Rao, Professor, and Head (2016-2019), Department of Neurosurgery, National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS) on ‘Brain Health’, on February 19th.
“At birth, the human brain is endowed with 86 billion neurons with connections in trillions. With age, systemic diseases, head injury, obesity, depression, and alcoholism, there is a progressive loss of neurons leading to cognitive decline (loss of memory). Physical exercise, cognitive stimulation, music, and meditation will improve brain health,” said Dr Rao, who went on to provide current evidence regarding the role of exercise, diet, music, meditation, and sleep in the production of new neurons in the brain and improving brain health.
Dr. Rao is also the President, Indian Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and the Continental Vice-President, World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.
