Professor R. Narayanaswamy

Professor R. Narayanaswamy superannuated from the services of IIM Bangalore on 31st July 2021. Prof. Narayanaswamy joined the Institute as Assistant Professor, Finance and Control Area on 01st September 1986 and was promoted as Professor on October 25, 1995.

He obtained his PhD (Accounting) from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.  He also holds  ACA  from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ACMA from The Institute of Cost Accountants of India and ACS from The Institute of Company Secretaries of India. His research interests included corporate disclosure policy, earnings management, auditing, and corporate governance.

At IIMB, he served as Chairperson PGP, Coordinator Students’ Affairs and SC/ST Students’ Cell, Chairperson EPGP, and Chairperson Finance and Control Area. He was a member of the Finance Committee. His papers have appeared in journals such as  Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance and Accounting Horizons. He is a  popular teacher and a much sought-after speaker in professional forums. He has authored Financial Accounting: A Managerial Perspective, an MBA textbook.

Prof. Narayanaswamy served as Member/Chair in several Company Boards and Committees of Govt. of India. They included Bank of Baroda, Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd, National Financial Reporting Authority, Committee on Valuation Matters, Core Group on Secretarial Audit Report, Audit Advisory Board of Principal Director of Audit, Accounting Standards Board, and Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.
