Centre for Corporate Governance & Citizenship at IIMB hosts panel on ‘Gate Keepers & Whistle Blowers: Implications for Corporate Governance’
The Centre for Corporate Governance & Citizenship (CCGC) at IIM Bangalore organised a virtual panel discussion on ‘Gate Keepers & Whistle Blowers: Implications for Corporate Governance’, on 19th April 2022. The panel featured M Damodaran, Chairperson, Excellence Enablers Pvt Ltd, Dr Omkar Goswami, Founder & Chairperson, CERG Advisory Pvt Ltd, and Padmaja Chunduru, Managing Director & CEO, National Securities Depository Ltd. Vikram Chandra, Founder of Editorji Technologies, moderated the session.
Discussing how a number of “gatekeeping” professions – auditors, securities analysts, credit-rating agencies had not succeeded in their responsibilities to identify corporate frauds for various reasons, the panel touched upon policies that are further required to strengthen the responsibilities of gatekeepers. While whistle blowers have raised red flags and exposed many corporate frauds, the whistle blower mechanism is still at its nascent stage in India, so the panel examined ways in which the whistle blower mechanism in India can be further strengthened.
