Centre for Teaching & Learning hosts panels on Performing Arts Integrated Learning on June 24th

The Centre for Teaching and Learning at IIM Bangalore hosted an online panel discussion on Performing Arts Integrated Learning, on 24th June 2022, as part of its Samiksha series of webinars.

The discussants were Ms. Geeta Dharmarajan from Katha, Dr. Sreelata Jonnalagedda from IIM Bangalore, and Prof. Kaustuv Roy from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Ms Dharmarajan spoke about the bond that gets created when the elements of performing arts are integrated into mainstream pedagogic practices, resulting in “an engaging and participatory classroom”. Prof. Sreelata Jonalagedda talked about why we should integrate performing arts into learning, what aspects and kinds of performing arts can be used in learning environments, and how/the ways to do so.

Prof. Kaustuv Roy presented a broader approach and axioms of performativity, and highlighted that existence or life makes sense largely when we look at it as a continuous performance. “Since, performance is happening all the time, learning from them shouldn’t remain confined to classroom practices,” he said.
