Professor Ishwar Murthy

Professor Ishwar Murthy, Professor, DS Area, is superannuating from the services of IIM Bangalore on 31st October 2022. Prof. Murthy joined the Institute in the then  Quantitative  Methods & Information Systems Area on 25 May 2000.

Prof.  Murthy obtained his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, MBA from Northeast Louisiana University, and B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur.

Before joining IIMB, Prof.  Murthy was an Associate Professor at Louisiana State University. He also served as a visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Georgia Tech University, and University of Texas at Dallas.

Prof. Ishwar Murthy’s research interests are in Network and Discrete Optimization, Stochastic Optimization, Mathematical Programming Applications in Telecommunications and Expert Systems etc. He has been a prolific researcher and published in leading journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Naval Research Logistics, Discrete Applied Mathematics,  Networks, and INFORMS Journal on Computing.

Prof.  Murthy has held several important administrative positions at the  Institute. Major ones include Dean Faculty, Chairperson Admissions, Chairperson QMIS Area, and  Chairperson PGP.   He also served as Chairperson/ Member of many  Institute Committees.
