Professor Subbarayan Prasanna

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the untimely passing of Professor Subbarayan Prasanna, who passed away in Bengaluru on 10 January 2026, at the age of 88.

Professor Prasanna joined the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore on 31 July 1978 and served the Institute with distinction until his superannuation on 31 January 1998, completing nearly two decades of dedicated service. He was a Professor of Urban Planning in the Centre for Human Settlements and Environmental Studies, under the Public Systems Group, and served the Institute as Dean (Administration) during his tenure.

An engineer and planner by training, Professor Prasanna made significant contributions to the physical and institutional development of IIM Bangalore. He was co-opted to the Campus Development Committee, where he worked closely with Dr. B. V. Doshi and his team in the design and development of the iconic Amphitheatre on campus.

IIMB extends its heartfelt condolences to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time. Professor Prasanna will be remembered with respect and affection for his scholarship, his energy, and his many contributions to IIM Bangalore.
