Renaissance Services: Pioneering Food Waste Management

Renaissance Services SAOG, a leader in integrated facilities management in Oman, faced a critical challenge of excessive food waste at its Renaissance Village Duqm (RSVD) facility. With landfill taxes soaring to $350,000 in 2021 and $341,000 in 2022, and a staggering 8,572 tons of waste generated annually, the issue was not only financial but also a direct contradiction to the company’s sustainability values. A significant portion of this waste came from uneaten food, highlighting food production and consumption inefficiencies. Recognizing the broader environmental and social implications, the leadership team, including Sami Al Shaikh, General Manager of RSVD, Pradeep Shanmugam, Manager of Operations Excellence and Mahesh Prabu, Operations Manager, took a decisive step to manage the issue of food waste effectively by using data driven decision making and innovative approaches using Artificial Intelligence.
