Gameskraft, an online gaming company founded in 2017, rapidly expanded its offerings of popular online card games to become a highly profitable, bootstrapped and privately funded start-up. As the popularity of its offerings grew, the firm rapidly expanded its employee base to nearly 700 employees, known as Krafters. With a wide range of employee-friendly policies and a supportive culture, Nitin Nahata, Head of HR at Gameskraft, created an innovative performance management and talent management system that acknowledged the rapidly changing external environment, while providing some degree of stability of deliverables in certain roles, and recognizing the dynamism of rapidly changing deliverables in others, even within a single year.

The Gameskraft case offers a valuable perspective on how organizations can balance immediate talent needs with long-term cultural sustainability in high-growth, technology-driven industries. Students will explore the tension between competency-based hiring practices and culture-focused approaches, emphasizing organizational fit and values alignment. The case also allows students to analyze the role of leadership in designing innovative HR practices that transcend traditional credential-based models. HR leaders can drive organizational transformation while maintaining employee engagement and psychological safety through Nahata’s systematic approach to codifying culture, developing the ‘Konversations’ performance management system, and instituting agile talent management principles. The case also highlights the roles of leadership, organizational culture, values and agile talent management in high-growth organizations, as well as the value of various HR initiatives in sustaining and supporting organizational growth and culture.
