MIELO Food Products Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian premium honey brand that combines scientific quality assurance with indigenous sourcing and community engagement. As the company experiences rapid growth and attracts interest from national retailers, its founders face a critical strategic challenge: how to scale the brand without diluting its authenticity, distinctive identity and social mission. The case places students in the position of Neha Rai, Co-founder and Head of Marketing, who must recommend a branding and go-to-market strategy that balances commercial scalability with responsible representation of indigenous communities. Students evaluate alternative positioning strategies – indigenous-origin, modern mainstream, and hybrid – while considering consumer preferences, provenance and traceability, premium pricing, and the risks of tokenistic diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) communication. The case also requires students to assess direct-to-consumer versus retail expansion and determine how MIELO can institutionalize authenticity as it grows. The case enables discussion of brand positioning, consumer behavior, distribution strategy, premiumization, ethical storytelling and responsible DEI communication in the context of an emerging-market consumer brand.
