Aarohan 2.0: Leadership Development Programme for Oil India Ltd

‘AAROHAN 2.0’ is Oil India Limited’s (OIL) flagship Leadership Development Programme under the HR Directorate, designed to develop a future-ready leadership pipeline aligned with the organization’s succession planning priorities. Building on the foundation of AAROHAN 1.0, the programme aims to strengthen leadership capabilities and prepare emerging leaders to address evolving business challenges and drive organizational growth.

The programme brings together 40 middle-management executives, comprising 32 participants from OIL and eight from Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). The cohort includes experienced professionals, predominantly with 10 to 21 years of service, serving as Chief Managers, Chief Engineers, Chief Geophysicists, Senior Managers and Deputy General Managers across technical, operational as well as corporate functions. Their diverse backgrounds span drilling, geoscience, projects, pipeline operations, finance, human resources, procurement, maintenance and refinery operations.

The programme, conducted in collaboration with Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), incorporates classroom learning, experiential activities, field visits, mentoring and strategic projects over approximately eight to nine months. The IIMB intervention is designed to bridge leadership learning with practical organizational application.

Under the academic guidance of the Programme Director Dr. Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Chairperson, Executive Education Programmes and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIMB, the intervention covers key areas including strategic thinking and decision-making, project identification and design, business-case development, project management, financial acumen, team effectiveness, stakeholder alignment and execution excellence. The pedagogy combines faculty-led sessions, case studies, group exercises, self-assessments and practical workshops to encourage active participation and peer learning.

A central focus of AAROHAN 2.0 is enabling participants to collaborate across functions, develop structured solutions to complex business problems and translate strategic ideas into actionable initiatives with measurable organizational outcomes.
