CPP hosted book talk on 07th March
Dr. Thiagu Ranganathan, Associate Professor at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) in Thiruvananthapuram, delivered a talk on his book titled, “Accidental Gamblers: Risk and Vulnerability in Vidarbha Cotton”. The talk was hosted by the Centre for Public Policy (CPP), at IIMB.
The Vidarbha region of central India has been the epicenter of a protracted agrarian crisis. For generations of cotton farmers in the region, the gamble with cash crops and the story of agrarian distress has been deeply linked with economic, ecological, and political transformations. Based on insights emerging from research from a longue durée approach to economic history and primary longitudinal study over 12 years, ‘Accidental Gamblers’ presents insights on how methodological pluralism can help ‘understand’ and ‘explain’ agrarian crises.
