Prof. Rahul De’
Professor Rahul De’ from the Information Systems area, superannuated from the services of IIM Bangalore on 31st December 2024 after 22 years at the Institute.
Before joining IIMB, he taught for over 10 years at Rider University, Bowie State University, Western Illinois University, & University of Pittsburgh, USA. He also held teaching stints at Bordeaux Business School, Bordeaux, France and University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain. Before getting into academics, he worked as a Consultant at S. B. Billimoria & Co. Chartered Accountants and Management Consultants, New Delhi, India for over two years.
Prof. De’ obtained his PhD from JM Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, USA; MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University; and BTech from IIT Delhi. His research interests are in ICT for development, open source, e-Government systems, digital payments, internet governance, telemedicine and AI ethics. He has published widely and they include books/book chapters, articles in international peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings papers and writings in popular press. He also served on boards of several professional organisations which include IDRBT, Software Freedom Law Centre etc besides editorial boards of several reputed journals in the IS domain.
Being a prolific researcher and well-regarded teacher, Prof. De has won many awards. In November 2024, he was recognized as AIS distinguished member (leading association for IS academics and professionals ). In 2020, he was recognised as one of the top ten AI researchers in India by Analytics India Magazine. Other awards received by Prof. De include the Outstanding Paper Award for the most Interdisciplinary and Innovative Research at EGOV 2009 at Linz, Austria, the Rene Wagenaar Outstanding Paper Award for the most compelling research reflection, Best Professor in Information Systems at Asia’s Best B-School Awards in Singapore ( 2010) etc. He was Honorary Chair for the International Conference on Information System (ICIS) 2023.
Besides exemplary performance in teaching and research, Prof. Rahul De’s contributions to institutional service have been outstanding. At IIMB he held several senior administrative positions. Major ones include Member, Board of Governors, and Dean(Programmes) besides being on several Institute committees.
