Sitaraman Shankar
Sitaraman Shankar joined IIM Bangalore as CEO at IIMBx, the digital learning company of IIM Bangalore on 20th March 2025.
His illustrious 31-year professional journey has been marked by two pivotal transitions. The first came in 1994, when he made the shift from the production floor of a pharmaceutical factory to the dynamic newsroom of a leading financial newspaper. The second, in March 2025, saw him join one of India’s top business schools to lead its digital learning initiatives.
Shankar’s three-decade-long career in media has been both diverse and impactful. He has written and managed news operations across four countries, led the largest newsroom of Delhi’s biggest paper, launched a news product for India’s leading financial website, and headed The Printers Mysore Ltd.—the Bengaluru-based publisher of the iconic brands Prajavani and Deccan Herald.
In 2018, he was appointed Editor of Deccan Herald, becoming the first individual outside the promoter family to hold the position in 35 years. In October 2019, he took on the additional responsibility of CEO, balancing both roles with exceptional finesse. He spent a major portion of his day steering the company as CEO while continuing to lead critical editorial decisions and transformations.
Mr. Shankar brings with him a wealth of experience, strategic insight, and editorial acumen, and we are excited for the vision and leadership he will bring to IIMBx.
