Curatal: Easing Recruiting Experience for Applicants and Organizations
Debolina Dutta, Sonali Ramaiah
Curatal was founded in 2015 by Pruthvi Nanjappa and Manjunath R as a recruitment solutions platform to solve IT/ITeS company challenges and candidate recruitment experience. The platform evolved to include multiple features, from video-based interviewing and first-level skill assessment service to a pool of qualified and pre-assessed candidates from which companies could select. Furthermore, for candidates, the assessment process also provided feedback on skills and competencies, with learning recommendations. A unique feature of the platform was the control in the candidates’ hands on who could/could not access their details and resumes. However, as Curatal focused only on one sector, the demand for this service and a similarly vetted talent pool emerged from other industries and sectors. The Curatal case is set in a paradoxical context, characterized by a substantial pool of formally educated but mismatched skill fit inside a burgeoning economy, with the persistent issue encountered by IT/ITeS recruitment agencies in sourcing and attracting high-caliber candidates. This case examines the role of technology in changing well-established recruitment practices and poor applicant experience. Students are challenged to assess the value delivered by this new technology and its potential to transform the entire recruitment and selection process. Further, as the recruitment process and experience still remain sub-optimal for many stakeholders, Nanjappa and Manjunath are challenged in the direction of their platform growth.
