Centre for Teaching & Learning conducts Cohort V of ‘Nurturing Future Leadership Programme’
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) conducted Cohort V of the ‘Nurturing Future Leadership Programme’ (NFLP) from 16th to 20th March 2026 at the IIM Bangalore (Bannerghatta Road) campus. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India and as per the guidelines of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), the NFLP has been designed to facilitate the training of senior faculty of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to prepare them for leadership roles in academia. The Programme Director of the 5th cohort of NFLP was Dr. Sushanta K Mishra, Chairperson, Centre for Teaching & Learning, Research & Publications and C-DOCTA, Editor-in-Chief, IIMB Management Review, and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIM Bangalore.
The diverse cohort included faculty members from departments of Management, Pharmacy, Communication, Engineering, Arts and Social Sciences, who were from leading institutions in Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Altogether 21 faculty members from central government, state government and private universities and institutions participated in the programme led by IIMB’s senior faculty members, including Dr. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Professor In-charge, New Campus and faculty of the Strategy area, IIM Bangalore; Dr. Rejie George Pallathitta, Chairperson and faculty of the Strategy area of IIMB; Dr. Gopal Mahapatra, Chairperson and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIMB; Dr. Sourav Mukherji, Dean, Faculty and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIMB; Dr. Shankar Venkatagiri, Chairperson and faculty, Information Systems area of IIMB; Dr. Mukta Kulkarni, Dean, Programmes, Chairperson, Office of International Affairs and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIMB; Dr. Anil B Suraj, Chairperson, N.S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship and the Committee on Diversity & Inclusion, and faculty of the Public Policy area of IIMB; Dr. Sushanta K Mishra and Dr. Malavika R Harita, Founder & CEO, Brand Circle and Member, IIMB Board of Governors.
The five-day residential programme consisted of sessions on Leadership and Institution Building, Strategic Thinking and Planning, Emotional Resilience and Self-Management, Role of Institutional Leaders in Creating a Sustainable Society, Leadership and Teamwork, Communicating for ROI, Negotiation, Decision Making in HEIs, Change Management, Institutional Legal Aspects and Fostering Equity and Inclusivity. These aim to equip the participants with skills in decision-making, problem-solving, governance and institutional benchmarking.
The carefully curated programme included lectures (including video-based), in-class activities, case discussions, self-evaluation instruments, workshops and peer learning. The blend of theoretical concepts and their practical application in academia ensured internalization of the learnings.
Holistic development through Yoga sessions, a movie screening designed to inspire as well as a campus walk to introduce the participants to some of the best practices and Centres at IIMB were well received by the participants.
On completion of the programme, the participants summarized their learning experience thus: “Inspired by the senior faculty members at IIMB and armed with the learnings, the programme was transformational.”
