Prof. S Ramesh Kumar from the Marketing area of IIM Bangalore superannuated from the services of the institute on June 30, 2022.
Prof. Ramesh Kumar joined IIMB as Assistant Professor of Marketing on December 21, 1995, and was promoted as Professor on July 18, 2001. He obtained his PhD, MBA and BE in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Madras.
Prof. Ramesh Kumar’s research interests include Branding-Consumer Behavior Interface, Cultural Dimensions in Marketing, and Consumer Behavior-Digital Marketing Interface. He has published widely in reputed journals such as the South Asian Journal of Management, Journal of Integrated Marketing Communications, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Journal of Customer Behaviour, etc. He specializes in the application of Marketing and Consumer Behavior concepts to the Indian context. He published seven reference books on Marketing and Consumer Behavior, which included the adaptation of a popular textbook on Consumer Behavior to the Indian context. He wrote consistently in the popular press as well.
He has had a distinguished career as one of the most popular teachers at IIMB, and his elective course on Consumer Behavior was widely received across all programmes. He also contributed significantly to Executive Education Programmes. He was awarded the ICFAI Best Teacher Award by the Association for Indian Management Schools (AIMS). He used the case method effectively in his teaching and published 25 co-authored cases in Ivey and IIMB cases distributed by HBS on popular Indian brands.
Prof. Ramesh Kumar held the IIMB Chair of Excellence from 2016 to 2019. He also served as Chairperson, PGPEM, Chairperson, Marketing area and Chairperson, Welfare Committee.
IIM Bangalore thanks Prof. Kumar for his immense contributions towards making IIMB the world-class institute that it is today and extends its best wishes to him for the new phase of his life.
