Dr. Hema Swaminathan, faculty in the Public Policy area at IIM Bangalore, will speak on ‘Gender Gaps in Ownership of Non-agricultural Enterprise in Georgia, Mongolia and Cavite, Philippines’ on 7th December at 2:30 pm in Classroom K21.
Here is an abstract from her paper: Women’s entrepreneurship is a global policy goal in the promotion of women’s economic empowerment. Yet, gender disparities in entrepreneurship are widespread. Using unique survey data from Georgia, Mongolia, and Philippines, the researchers contribute to the literature on gender gaps in entrepreneurship. The study finds that the overall incidence of entrepreneurship is highest in Cavite, Philippines, while the gender gap in ownership is highest in Mongolia. Interestingly, women are more likely to be exclusive owners in Cavite with main financial control of their enterprise. On average, enterprises operated by men tend to have larger firm size relative to those operated by women.
