Fourth edition of General Management Programme for Tata Motors concludes
The fourth edition of the General Management Programme for Tata Motors, designed for high-potential senior managers, was concluded on 6th March 2026 at IIM Bangalore. Delivered entirely in-person on campus, the programme was structured across five phases to provide an immersive and comprehensive learning experience.
This edition, which was inaugurated on 4th Aug 2025, was thoughtfully curated into six modules, aimed at enabling L-5 level managers to transition effectively from being individual contributors to people and business leaders. The participants, with over five years of experience, represented diverse functions and business units. They were selected through the Fast Track Selection Scheme (FTSS) and are on a defined trajectory toward L-4 (DGM level) roles. The cohort comprised both campus hires who have grown within the organization and lateral entrants, including graduate and post-graduate engineer trainees, and management trainees with engineering background.
The programme was designed and led by Dr. G Shainesh, Chairperson, Digital Learning and Initiatives on Consumer Insights, and faculty of the Marketing area of IIMB; and Dr. Nishant Kumar Verma, Chairperson, Career Development Services, and faculty of the Production & Operations Management area of IIMB, whose academic leadership ensured a robust and impactful learning experience.
Of the five phases, four modules were delivered over four days each, while one extended to five days to allow for deeper engagement. The curriculum covered key functional areas such as marketing, finance and operations, complemented by sessions on analytics and managerial effectiveness. Together, these elements were designed to build a strong foundation for participants as they take on broader leadership responsibilities.
A distinctive feature of the programme was the ‘Learning Diary’, which encouraged participants to reflect on their learning and identify practical applications within their roles. From the second phase onward, this reflective exercise was further strengthened through the integration of learning into individual FTSS projects. The Programme Directors facilitated dedicated sessions in each phase to guide participants on applying concepts to their ongoing projects, thereby ensuring strong linkage between classroom learning and workplace impact.
The valedictory session featured Mr. Mohammed Shameer, General Manager – Zonal Sales, HCV South, who emphasized the critical role of such developmental interventions in shaping managerial careers. Drawing from his own experience in similar programmes, he highlighted how these learning journeys influence professional growth, enhance strategic thinking, and build the confidence to take on challenging roles. The participants also shared their reflections, highlighting key takeaways and the programme’s role in expanding their perspectives and approach to problem-solving.
